Questions
1) My labels are not printing
properly. They are off by a fraction of an inch.
What is going on?
Many older printers,
particularly non-laser printers, don't always feed
the paper the same way every time. Thus the
printout could be off by a small amount. Even laser
printers might print the label at a slightly
different location depending on which paper tray
you happen to be using, or if the paper is fed in
at a small angle.
To fix this, use the "Adjust
Printed Position..." option on the label window.
You can specify (in fractions of an inch) how far
to move the label up, down, left, or right so it
prints properly on your printer. The best way to do
this is print a label with some text and a
background color and then measure how far off it
is, and work from there.
** The settings you select in
this dialog box apply only to the current label. If
you want to set a default adjust value then go the
edit menu and choose "Set Default Adjust Position."

2) How do I add graphics to a
label?
Just drag and drop any image
file onto a label or use the "Add Picture..."
button. With QuickTime 4.0 or higher installed you
can add BMP, FlashPix, GIF, JFIF/JPEG, MacPaint,
Photoshop, PNG, QuickDraw GX Picture, PICT,
QuickTime Images, Silicon Graphics Images, TGA and
TIFF images. Older versions of QuickTime do not
support as many formats. Should newer versions of
QuickTime support more image formats then the Label
Printer Pro will support them automatically.
If your graphics do not appear
trying opening your graphics file with a program
such as GraphicConverter, resaving the file (which
can correct corrupted image files) and then try
adding your graphic files once again.
3) I am getting out of memory
errors. How do I fix this?
If you are using millions of
colors then switch to 16-bit (thousands of colors)
using your monitors control panel. The Label
Printer Pro tries to alert you when it runs out of
memory but sometimes it cannot. Also, try
increasing the program's RAM allocation by choosing
"Get Info..." in the finder and increasing the
Label Printer Pro's Preferred memory size.
You should never have to change
the Label Printer Pro's memory allocation on Mac OS
9 unless you are getting errors since the Label
Printer Pro automatically uses temporary memory
when available.
Under Mac OS X you will not get
any out of memory errors.
4) I read your answer to
question #3 above and I switched my monitor to 256
colors (8-bit) to really save memory. But now I
can't see the cursor very well in the text areas.
Why not?
In 8-bit color the cursor does
not show up very well on the gray background of the
window. Using thousands of colors is a good
compromise if you are running out of memory. Or
just give the program more memory by choosing "Get
Info..." in the finder and increasing the Label
Printer Pro's RAM allocation.
5) I added a really large
image and none of it is visible? How do the scaling
options work?
When you add an image to a
label, it appears centered and at its original
size, even if it is much larger than the label.
Theoretically if you add a very large image with a
big area of white space in the middle you may only
see that white space initially. You can move the
image using the position options in the label
window. Alternately, use the scaling options in the
label window to scale an image down to fit
vertically, horizontally, or both.
If your graphics do not appear
trying opening your graphics file with a program
such as GraphicConverter, resaving the file (which
can correct corrupted image files) and then try
adding your graphic files once again.
6) When I choose print
nothing happens. Why?
If you do not enter any text and
only add a light background color, some black and
white printers may interpret your background color
as white and see a blank page. Therefore it may
print nothing. Just add an image or some text to
have it print out. This should not happen with
color printers.
7) Can you add rotated text
to the labels?
Yes, many of the case labels
included with the program support rotated
text.
OS X has problems with rotated text,
and these templates may cause the application to crash.
We recommend starting up LPP6 from Classic (by checking
the box in Get Info) when you print these templates.
We are working on a solution, but it is proving difficult.
8) I want to see more labels
supported! Can I use older Plug-Ins from the
Ultimate Label Printer Pro or Disk Label Printer
Pro?
We are always adding support for
new stick-on labels and new case labels to the
Label Printer Pro 6.0. Please check our web site
for updates. The Label Printer Pro 6.0 does not use
Plug-Ins anymore so you cannot add any older
Plug-Ins from our previous programs.
The Label Printer Pro 6.0 will
import files from the Disk Label Printer Pro, but
not from our older Ultimate Label Printer Pro
software.
9) How come my text cannot
extend to the end of the label?
Actually, all of the labels on
screen are slightly larger than the actual paper so
that if your printout is off center the background
color and/or picture will still cover the entire
label. So in reality your text most likely does
extend to the end of the label, it just does not
look that way on screen.
10) On Mac OS X, my icons
still look like Mac OS 9 icons. How do I fix
this?
If you install the Label Printer
Pro 6.0 on Mac OS X, rebuild your desktop file on
all of your hard drives by holding down the
Apple-Option key combination as your Mac starts up.
This will allow you to see high quality Aqua icons
for the Label Printer Pro 6.0.
General Questions
1) Does the Label Printer Pro
support Mac OS X ?
Yes, the Label Printer Pro fully
supports and runs natively in Mac OS X. and Mac OS
9.x. It is a "Carbon" application.
OS X has problems with rotated text,
and those templates may cause the application to crash.
We recommend starting up LPP6 from Classic (by checking
the box in Get Info) when you print these templates.
We are working on a solution, but it is proving difficult.
2) I am registered user of
the Ultimate and/or Disk Label Printer Pro. Is
there a discount for buying the new Label Printer
Pro 6?
You should have received an
e-mail from us giving you the details on upgrading.
If not please contact sales@payplaysoftware.com
3) Why is it called
LPP6?
The first Label Printer Pro was
released by Pay&Play Software in 1996. Back
then it was called CD LPP and only made the plain
paper labels for jewel cases. Soon after we
released Zip LPP, and it became clear that we
needed an all in one Label Printer Pro. Enter
Ultimate Label Printer Pro. ULPP combined all of
the plain paper templates into a single
application. Prior to LPP6 we released Disk LPP.
DLPP printed on self stick labels, a first in the
LPP line. Label Printer Pro 6 was released early in
2001, and combined all of the functionality of the
earlier ULPP and DLPP into a single application.
Since it was the sixth major revision of LPP the
number stuck and became part of the name.
